Uniforms in Fashion

As many of you know, I’ve spent a good share of my week in the master closet.  First, while organizing my new jewelry board, then editing and purging clothing and shoes.

While in the middle of all of this, I realized something about myself…

Project: Organzing Jewelry and Scarves

jewelry board 4 Project: Organzing Jewelry and Scarves

My love affair with jewelry began at a very early age.  I loved sneaking into my mother’s jewelry box and trying on all her shiny and sparkly baubles.  As I grew up, I became even more enamored with these adornments.  By the time I was in college I saved up to buy my first real emerald ring.  The stones were tiny, the gold band was thin…but I was proud.

fall decor 1 Decorating for Autumn

While summer provides bunches of freshly cut flowers, autumn has its own beauty.  Brightly colored leaves, newly fallen pine cones, pumpkins and gourds all can be used in home décor.  The following photos by Helen Norman show many examples of ways to decorate for the season using items found in nature.  Do you decorate for fall?  Have a beautiful weekend!

Brightly Colored Leaves and Earthquakes

Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.

~Albert Camus

A few of the trees have starting to change colors in my Norman, Oklahoma neighborhood.  Bright orange and beautiful…they’re certainly going out in a blaze of glory!  When I ran across the above quote – I thought it would be perfect for today along with a few gorgeous autumn-orange photos.  (Photos continue below.)

And now about the second part of today’s title…  We had some excitement yesterday.  I experienced my first earthquake.  That’s not really the kind of thing one expects in my region!  (We’re the land of tornadoes – NOT earthquakes.)  From the reports, it sounds like our home was within about 15 miles of the epicenter.  And I definitely felt it.  While it would just be a baby tremor in California, for the inexperienced like me, it was kind of scary.

Vineyard Estate

For some reason, as cold weather approaches I find myself more in the mood for red wine.  The deep burgundy colors and rich flavors seem to be the perfect compliment to cooler seasons.  On my search for this week’s beautiful home, I was so excited when I found this 20 acre Cabernet vineyard estate.  Located in St. Helena – California, the home has a main house, guest house, in ground pool and pool house.  It even has an olive grove.  I’m smitten with the overall modern – rustic feel of the home.  And the fact that it’s located on a Cabernet vineyard is a fantastic bonus!  icon wink Vineyard Estate   Where would your dream home be?

Beginner’s Guide to Animal Print

Before I begin, I was honored when Shannon of The Simply Luxurious Life asked me to do a guest post on her site.  I had so much fun putting it together.  And I’d love for you to pop over and take a look.  Here’s a link:  Not Your Mother’s Pearls.

And now, on to animal print…  Last week I received an email from a reader.  She explained that while she liked the idea of animal print, she always felt uncomfortable trying to wear it.  However, with the recent resurgence of this classic print she wanted some advice on how to give the look a second try.   The following are my suggestions:
