This Montecito California estate was designed by George Washington Smith in his signature Spanish-Colonial Revival style. Smith’s style was based on centuries-old structures observed in his European travels. Handcrafted tiles, carved doors, wrought iron, sconces, chandeliers and imported beams all add to its old-world charm. This estate is currently on the market. Hi Piper,
I grew up in India and my uncle had a house like this (not as big though
) but it is remarkably similar. Isn’t it interesting that the styles from opposite corners of the globe share a common influence?
♥Deepa-It really is interesting that architectural styles cross over from culture to culture. Makes it seem like a smaller world. (Which I think is a good thing.)

My favorite type of architecture…do you think it’s inappropriate in the middle of typical new constructio in Pennsylvania?

♥A House and Home-That is such a great question! In my humble opinion I think it’s fun to have some unique homes scattered throughout neighborhoods. Where I grew up there were several examples of this…and I must say, the homes with unique architectural details were my favorites. Thanks so much for comment. Have a beautiful day!

Thanks for visiting. This is the post where I talk about Spanish architecture – specifically Diane Keaton’s house. http://ahouseandhome.blogspot.com/2010/08/im-always-in-love.html
Thought you might enjoy it.

I saw the first picture and thought “Looks like Santa Barbara”, and it is! My hometown! I love red tile roofs. That home is beautiful, wish it was in my price range
