Alfred Hitchcock was born on this date in 1899. With a signature directorial style that included unique camera angles, “fugitive” story lines and sneaky cameo appearances in own films, Hitchcock became one of the most influential filmmakers of his time.
His attraction to “icy blondes” as leading ladies was well documented. In fact, Hitchcock was quoted as saying, “Blondes make the best victims. They’re like virgin snow that shows up the bloody footprints.” Kind of morbid…but it seemed to work for him.
Some of these blonde leading ladies included Kim Novak in Vertigo (1st photo above), Tippi Hedron in the Birds, Janet Leigh in Psycho, and Grace Kelly (shown with Alfred Hitchcock).
My favorite Hitchcock film is Dial M for Murder. I’ve included a clip below. Have you seen any of his works? And if so, do you have a favorite?

The Birds was my fav – still hate them to this day. But man, tippi Hedron really was not a character you could like in that movie!

♥Deepa- I must say, for some reason, The Birds has always freaked me out a little bit.
I’m kind of a wimp about such things. lol!

I think I’ve only ever seen The Birds…I’m ashamed to admit it.
I definitely need to see more!
Happy weekend, doll!

♥Johnanna-Couldn’t agree more about the fashions! I think that may be part of the reason I’ve always been so drawn to these films.

The Birds is my fave, I still like to watch that now and again. I always loved that he did a cameo in his movies.
♥Lulu-Sounds like there are lots of Birds fans out there. I think I must have a little bit of a bird-phobia. lol! I’m a big fan of the cameos too! It’s always fun to watch for him to show up.

Hitchcock did a great blonde, didn’t he? And Tippi Hedron from the Birds makes a FAB Halloween costume
I loved North by Northwest and Rear Window. But my favorite part of any Hitchcock film are the opening credits. Design eye candy!

♥Stef-You are so right about the Tippi Halloween costume. It’s perfect!

The Birds!!! My absolute fav! I have a weird fear of birds, maybe that’s why my morbid mind likes that movie. And living in a city where rats with wings are everywhere and have been know to fly directly into heads (yes this happened to me) it’s pretty normal for me to have a fear of birds! haha

♥Monique-I love it…embracing the fear! And btw, if a bird flew at my head, I may just have a heart attack right there! lol!

Love Rear Window the most! My stepdad used to say I resembled Kim Novack, I was like, “who is she?” When I found out, it was a huge compliment! XO!

♥Shari-Indeed! That is an outstanding compliment! I like Rear Window also. I think it’s probably my second favorite of his works.

He knew how to cast beautiful women didn’t he? I hate to admit this, but I don’t think I’ve seen an entire film of his. I must change this as he is always alluded to. Piper, have a lovely weekend and I hope sleep comes more quickly for you. =)
Shannon(Simply Luxurious)´s last blog ..Eat- Pray- Love
♥Shannon-Hitchcock definitely picked some good leading ladies. And I know what you mean about only seeing bits of movies. There are so many different films that I’ve seen only parts of over the years. (In fact, nowadays that seems to be the way I see most films.) If you ever sit down and watch an entire Hitchcock film – I’d love to hear what you think about it!
And thank you Shannon, for wishing sleep for me. Much appreciated! I’ve been an off and on insomniac since childhood. This latest version has me going to sleep alright, but waking up by 3:30am every. single. day. That gets old, really quickly! Have a beautiful weekend dear!

I’ve hardly seen any Hitchcock movies (they scare me, to be honest – I’m a coward!)

love this post!
Rear Window is my all time Hitchcock fave. The Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly duo was great. Second favorite would be Vertigo.
daisybabie´s last blog ..Friend Friday – Weighing in
♥Daisybabie- Thanks sweetie! And I agree, Rear Window is a good one. It’s been so long since I’ve seen Vertigo – I think I need to go back and watch it again. Have a great day!
