Good morning! Welcome to a new weekly post on DailyDivaDish. It’s called Friend Friday and was started by Katy at ModlyChic as a way for bloggers to get to know each other.
Every week, FF participants receive a new set of questions. Then on Friday, we each provide our answers in a post on our respective blogs. I became acquainted with the program through V at Grit and Glamour. It looked like a lot of fun – so I joined.
The subject this week is centered around the beach, which is one of my favorite things! Read along as I answer this week’s questions:
1. You’re headed to the beach/pool, what’s in your bag? Number 1 is sunscreen, but I like to be prepared for anything. Sunglasses, lip balm with spf, a towel, something to read, plus a clip or some other way to pull back my hair, are all requirements. For my everything-but-the-kitchen-sink list, please see this previous post.
2. Be honest… how do you feel about sunscreen? How often do you put it on? In all honesty, I’m kind of a contradiction when it comes to sunscreen. When it comes to my face, I won’t even open the shades in my home until I’m wearing at least spf 30. And when I’m at the beach or a pool I’m very particular about spf for my body too. I reapply about every hour. However (please don’t hate me) when I run out to the backyard for an hour or so I sometimes only apply sunscreen to my face, upper chest and neck. My arms and legs tan very easily and rarely burn – so I’m less particular about them when I won’t be out for that long. (I know – not smart.)
3. Do you have any sunburn remedies? Occasionally I will get a little pink on my shoulders and during a recent trip to the beach, found Solar Recover works quite nicely. It’s soothing, moisturizing, smells good and no animal testing.
4. Do you use sunless tanning products? Which do you use, why is it your favorite? Occasionally I use self tanners. I had tried so many through the years…with disastrous results until I started using Bare Escentuals Faux Tan. I like its color and that it doesn’t smell terrible. Plus, it is tinted, which makes application so much easier.
I also have another “tanning” product I highly recommend. It’s Baked Body Frosting by Laura Geller and it’s so good, it probably deserves its own post. If you’re fair, this product will provide a little color…and if you’re already tan – it makes your tan look better. I use the darker of the two shades, Honey Glow. I like to wet the applicator puff first, then dab it into the product, and finish by rubbing it on my arms, legs, or anywhere else I want to even out my color and create a subtle, dewy glow. Once dry, it stays in place through normal wear and just washes off in the shower. I think of this product as a tan-enhancer.
5. The best part about the beach is… The melodic sound of crashing waves. I find this sound to be so relaxing. Add in the warmth of the sun and it’s pure bliss.
So what’s your beach routine?

Good stuff. I like putting leave in conditioner in my hair when I am at the beach. The sun warms it up and it’s like an intensive conditioning treatment. Plus I feel like it protects my hair from the salt water a bit!

It’s always good to be prepared so your bag of beach essentials is a good idea but I hate having too many things with me because I always love to run off into the sea and splash around
♥ Hannah – Excellent point. That’s the one downfall of bringing lots of stuff…is the feeling you have to keep an eye on it the whole time you’re playing in the ocean.

That’s an amazing photo!!! (and you took it!)
I always put sunscreen on my face, too, but um when it comes to arms and legs… I’m less disciplined…
Café Bellini´s last blog ..Homes with a view
♥ Café Bellini – Yup, I took it.
For some reason I can take awesome shots at the beach…but nowhere else. Strange, huh? Too bad I don’t live anywhere near a beach.

Thank you for the great post! I don’t leave the house without sunscreen on my face either! Happy Friday everyone!
♥ Melissa – Smart girl! You have a happy Friday too!

It is kind of odd when you think about it. Taking all these things to the beach and then having to worry about them being unattended. Though I have never had any of them taken when I’ve left them to go into the surf. Maybe it is because everyone is off having fun?
Savy Sugar had some good ideas though for security on the beach. I think the best is probably the ULO beach safe ($20) http://www.amazon.com/Montclair-Beach-Products-ulo-01-w-Safe/dp/B001UFXZII or the or a book safe ($20) http://www.diversionsafesonline.com/Home-Security-Diversion-Safes/SKU4689.shtml

♥ The Chotto Coquette – I checked out the links you listed. The Beach Safe sounds interesting. I didn’t even realize anything like this existed. Thanks so much for the into!
