Self Tanning

Achieve a Gorgeous Faux Glow, Part 1 of 2:

With the current BE In-The-Glow beauty and fashion giveaway on DDD, a bit of a buzz has started around the idea of faux tanning.

I’ve received questions from both friends and readers about recommendations in this category, so today and tomorrow I’ll be sharing what works for me.  It’s actually a subject I’m pretty passionate about.

We thought we’d look HOT!

Why such a passion about faux tanning?  Because I started doing it when I was 13 years old.  And the results were horrific!

My friend Kris and I thought we were going to look like beach babes when we showed up at school on Monday morning.  After a Sunday trip to the local drugstore, we each went home to slather on the miracle cream before turning in for the evening.

The next day I jumped out of bed like it was Christmas morning.  I knew I was going to look hot.  As I peered into the mirror, I barely recognized the cartoon character staring back at me.  I was bright orange from head to toe.  Face, hands – everything!  I looked hot alright….kind of like I was on fire.

I was mortified to go to school, but was soon informed that turning yourself orange is no excuse for skipping school.  Off I went.  Once at school I saw Kris glowing from across the cafeteria.  We looked like a freaking pair of Oompa Loompas!

It was a long week.

Pissed off and more Determined:

Here’s a little fact about me: I think the saying goes…what doesn’t kill me, makes me stronger.  For me it’s more like: what doesn’t kill me, pisses me off and makes me more determined.  (Now you see why I don’t write my own quotes.)

So this one incident was only the beginning of self tanning experiences. And while I picked up a lot of tips and tricks through the years, it came completely together one year ago.

My Every Challenge – SOLVED:

You may have already guessed, my tanning product of choice is Bare Escentuals’ Faux Tan.  If I didn’t believe in it completely, I wouldn’t have agreed to being part of the launch of their new Bronzed and Buff set.  I’ve personally received no product or compensation from Bare Escentuals or QVC.  I just fully believe in this product.  Here’s why:

  • Smells good.
  • Tinted to assist in even application.
  • Doesn’t turn orange.
  • And, BE has revolutionized application, insuring no more discolored palms or cuticles!

BE Faux Tan actually smells like sweet almond.  Even once it has developed, it still doesn’t smell bad.

The tint is huge for me.  Prior to using a tinted self-tanner it was just a guessing game.

No orange tan. Period.

And about a year ago, BE came out with their first Faux Tan applicator brush.  That was a game-changer for me.  I don’t know of anyone else who offers this.  Now in its second generation, this brush most definitely takes it to the next level!

More Tomorrow:

So now you’ve heard why I use BE Faux Tan and brush.  Tomorrow I’ll go through tips and tricks, and why I think the brush makes all the difference.  See you tomorrow!

And Remember:

Friends don’t let friends do this…
