Platinum Wedding:
By Leesa Davis
DailyDivaDish caught up with Olympic Gold Medalist Sanya Richards during a shoot for WEtv’s Platinum Weddings. The Jamaican-American track star will marry Aaron Ross of the New York Giants this Friday but took time out to talk about beauty and her love for fashion. (Designer Tory Burch provided exclusive bracelets for Sanya’s bachelorette party.) Kevan Hall, celebrity designer, also participated in the celebratory evening and invited the bridal party to a private viewing of his collection where Sanya selected a dress for her wedding reception.
DailyDivaDish: Tell us about your connection with Tory Burch.
Sanya Richards: I really like Tory Burch. I love her work, I really love her shoes and so I wanted to do something for my bridesmaids that would be more meaningful. Tory Burch volunteered to close her store for us and have us come in for champagne and celebrate. She told me I could get whatever I wanted for the bridesmaids and so I got them a beautiful bracelet with their names engraved on it. It’s going to be special for me cause it’s not just a piece of jewelry, it’s getting someone that I really liked and that was willing to throw us a bachelorette party.
DDD: How would you describe your style?
SR: I think I am chic and trendy. I love to be up to date with the latest trends. I love leggings, cardigans and I love a lot of jewelry.
DDD: What’s your take on female athletes and fashion?
SR: Even when I’m on the track, I put my makeup on and I pull my hair back, I wear different uniforms. In sports, they always think of us as tomboys and I think there’s something special about a girl who wants to celebrate her womanhood, her beauty and so I think it’s important for women and young girls to know they don’t have to be a tomboy to play sports. You can always love high heels and all that stuff.
DDD: Would you say you have a signature style when you’re running in a race?
SR: People always tell me about my hair. I always wear my hair kind of sleek and long in the back, reminiscent of Flo Jo. In the last couple years though, Nike makes me these uniforms with unique sleeves that I wear sometimes. I think that might turn out to be my signature look.
DDD: What’s your beauty regimen? Do you take any special vitamins?
SR: There’s a lady, Jennifer, who has an amazing company, Jencare Skin Farm in Kingston, Jamaica. I’ve been using her products for five or six years, maybe longer now. She’s a dermatologist and her products keep my skin bright and pretty. If I would recommend any vitamin, I would recommend that women take Vitamin D. It helps your bones, especially for me with squatting and running. Vitamin D is great for your bones and joints. I also do a lot of juicing, natural vegetables and fruit. It’s a staple in my diet.
