More than just films:

As the Sundance Film Festival rolls on this week, here’s a little background about Sundance.

To many, the word Sundance conjures up visions of film debuts and movie stars.  However, it is so much more!  Robert Redford has said, “To us, Sundance is and always will be a dream.”

The History of Sundance

It began in 1969 when Redford purchased land at the base of beautiful 12,000-foot Mount Timpanogos in Utah’s Wasatch Mountains.  This pristine area, filled with wildflowers, babbling streams and large pine trees became known as Sundance Village.

The goal of Sundance Village was to maintain its natural beauty while fostering an environment of recreation and creativity.  Mission accomplished.

General Store

A year after Sundance was formed, the General Store opened.  Located at the base of the village, it carried many unique artisan-crafted pieces, including jewelry.  For 20 years the store received requests via mail for items past visitors saw during their stay in Sundance Village.

Eventually Redford decided to create Sundance Catalog.  Filled with handcrafted treasures, this catalog made Sundance available to everyone.  It is now online as well.

What I Want from my Valentine

I browse the site often, admiring and sometimes purchasing their unique jewelry.  With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I thought I’d share my latest love.

Following is a pic of the Loving Sentiments ring.  Created by Jes Maharry, it is so delicate, yet detailed at the same time.

As with all of her pieces, it contains a heart.  The heart on this piece sits front and center and is raised.  Inside, the ring is signed and contains the words: love, peace and truth.  All this on such a tiny little treasure.

Although I normally love big rings…I can’t get past the perfection of this piece.  Isn’t it precious?
