On this day in history, Janis Joplin was born.

Often seen as a troubled soul, the girl with the bluesy vocal style went on to eventually be named as one of the top 100 greatest singers of all time.  (Rolling Stone Magazine)

She is credited with saying, “Don’t compromise yourself.  You are all you’ve got.”  And it seemed this was how she lived her life.

Although she was a little before my time, I can still appreciate her contributions to the music world.  When I think of her, one song always comes to mind:  Mercedes Benz.

Sung in a cappella, this particular song was recorded in one take, just three days before her death.  To me, the song is just so Janis.  I thought I’d share.
