Versatile Vintage:
Have a few vintage brooches at the back of your jewelry box? I find them to be one of the most versatile fashion accessories in my wardrobe.
As I discussed in an earlier post, I’ve collected vintage brooches for several years. Some show the darkened patina that comes from age and a few are even missing tiny stones. I personally feel these imperfections make them even more interesting.
Through the years I’ve found so many ways to show off my collection. Brooches look amazing attached to a simple fabric clutch. I also love them clipped to the ribbon that goes around a fedora hat.
But as you can see below, that’s only the beginning…
Shown above on the side of a Cabbie-style hat.
A round, pearl brooch was used inside the buckle to add additional interest.
Shown above, a brooch dresses up an old black cap.
Use a brooch to close a scarf.
Or add as a finishing touch to an already-closed scarf.
For a different look experiment with a Chatelaine Pin as shown above.
Group smaller pieces together to form a statement look.
Add to a headband, as shown above.
Thrifted sweater too big? Use a beautiful brooch to nip in the waistline.
Have a brooch with a broken clasp? Turn it into a necklace. I’ve always thought this antique broach converted into a pendant on a custom-made necklace would be a perfect “something old” gift for a bride.
Another brooch turned into a necklace is shown above.
And finally, add some jewels to a basic v-neck shirt.
Do you have more ideas for wearing brooches? If so, I’d love to hear them!

Great demonstrations for wearing a vintage brooch. I also like wearing
them like a dress clip, depending on the style of blouse. Works
well with a v-neck blouse.
❤ Tammara–Great idea! I really don’t think there is a more
versatile piece of jewelry. Thanks for sharing!

❤ Styleezta–That sounds perfect! Along those same lines I
could also see a big broach on a Necklush too. Thanks for
sharing!

The Chatelaine Pin looks gorgeous! Where can I find a brooch like that?
❤ Hi Nicole!–I’m not sure where I got the Chatelaine Pin
specifically, but I can tell you the bulk of my collection
has come from local antique shops, Etsy and Ebay. When
I got your question, I did a quick Ebay search and there
were a few really cute Chatelaine options. Here’s a link:

Hope that helps.

just fun to switch it up a little bit with a Chatelaine
pin once in awhile. Very unexpected. Let us know what you

[...] Anyway. A little bird tipped me off to a pretty cool post about vintage broaches. Lots of us have these really amazing pieces of jewelry, but aren’t sure how to make them work. Thanks, little bird! [...]
FYI – brooch is spelled B-R-O-O-C-H

❤ Carol–Love that you’re keeping me on my toes! While my
source does list broach as being an alternate spelling for
brooch (and the one I’ve always used), I can see where it may
be more proper to use the traditional spelling. So I went
through and changed everything over to brooch. Thanks for
your comments and have a fantastic day!

❤ Cliche Queen–I love that you were able to find a few
new uses for brooches. As you can tell from the 3 pics,
I really enjoy adding them to hats especially!

Great ideas! I’ve never known what to do with the brooches I have.

I am absolutely adoring this post! I constantly fall in love with pins and brooches at stores but have no clue as to how to wear them – now I do!!

Great post! I love brooches too. I once added a dangly butterfly brooch to a black velvet shoulder bag, and it totally changed it. It was interesting to see how a cute little brooch could turn a $15-bag from H&M into something interesting and different.
