New Year’s Resolutions

Do you still make resolutions?

Blame it on too many years in corporate America…but I’m a sucker for a good “Action Plan.”  So, each year, on New Year’s Eve, I think about how I’d like my life to look this time next year.  champagne150 i New Years ResolutionsThen I set goals and develop an action plan to try to make it happen.

Remember Do-Overs?

I think it’s the optimist in me, but I love new beginnings.  As adults, we rarely get do-overs, so I take them wherever I can find them.

Many of my friends have abandoned the idea of new year’s resolutions.  My process works for me…so I’m going to stick with it.  (DailyDivaDish was actually the result of a resolution.)

This Year’s List

This year will mark the first time I’ve shared my resolutions with anyone.  I won’t bore you with the action plans.  But here are the goals.

  • Improve my photography skills.  No matter where I am, or what camera I use — I do NOT take pretty pictures.  I’ve seen bloggers post pics from their cell phones that are better than mine taken with a camera.  I may need to break down and take a class.
  • Read at least one book per month.  I adore books but was so busy in 2009 that I rarely made time to read.
  • Organize the master closet.  I feel blessed to have a big walk-in closet, yet I’ve piled in clothes, shoes and handbags, season after season with little or no editing.  And now, every inch of space is crammed so full — I can’t find things anymore.  Goal is to donate about half of my wardrobe.
  • As for health, my goal is to end the year being able to run 3 miles without dying or even wanting to die.  icon wink New Years Resolutions

I’m hoping that by posting my goals, I will feel even more accountable.  Wish me luck.

I do make ‘secret’ resolutions. I don’t tell anybody because I’m
afraid I’ll JINX myself if I say it out loud…sort of like keeping
    your wishes secret!

I used to make New Years Resolutions and never keep them! I have come to the conclusion to do so is to JINX myself! Now I spend New Years Day looking back at what goals I have accomplished the that year and be Thankful for being Here for the New Year!

This year I’m choosing a word (or maybe two) as the guiding
intentions for the new year. I’ve found that resolutions
can be a little self-defeating, in part because I make too
many of them. Too much like a JINX. This year I’ll put my
word(s) front and center, as a daily reminder to focus on
manifesting them in my life. I’m feeling fairly optimistic
    about this approach.

❤ Michelle S–I like your idea of using this time to
reflect back on your accomplishments and feeling gratitude.
What a great way to spend new years!

❤ Clara–I like your idea too. Choosing a few key terms
and working towards manifesting these ideas…I just may
have to try that for next year.

❤ Ashe– Thank you! And if you have any ideas on good
photography books, I would love to hear about them. It
may sound crazy–but I think the photography goal may
      be the most difficult one.

I don’t really make resolutions because like Heather, I might JINX myself. But I have some things in mind that I want to improve on. I just don’t put that pressure on myself. :)

❤ Heather! and Nicole O. This is my first year of telling
anyone my resolutions…so we’ll see how that works out.
If it doesn’t, I’ll have to go back to keeping them secret
      like you do.

I always think about what I’m going to make resolutions for, but it seems I never end up following through.
I should probably make my resolutions easier to attain.

❤ Martha P–You’re right, there’s a lot to be said about
attainability. When I was younger I made the most extreme
resolutions…and then wondered why I always failed. ;)
      Happy New Year!

    My resolutions:

    1. Blog more! I’ve used school as an excuse but I’m on the internet
anyway so might as well write more!
    2. Buy less clothes, shop my own closet! use my creativity
    instead of my wallet :)
    3. eat less starchy foods!!

❤ Jennifer and Melissa–It’s great to hear others have some
of the same goals I have. Good luck to you!

❤ Anne G– You’re certainly not alone on that one. So many
of my friends have decided to start out the year with no
resolutions. They say it really takes the pressure off.
(Which can’t be a bad thing!)

      ❤ Katie–What a great resolution. Nicely said. And I’m
sure it will be extremely fulfilling as well!

❤ Dddiva–What a perfect way to sum it up!

❤ Chris T–Great area of focus–as it affects virtually
every other part of our lives. Hope it goes very well
      for you.

Thanks to everyone for your comments on this subject. I’ve
enjoyed them so much. Plus I’ve gotten some really good
      ideas from you!

I don’t know if I really make resolutions… I set goals but I don’t feel like I really RESOLVE to do anything because I feel like that sets me up for disaster. I focus on doing what I want to do but don’t punish myself if I don’t get to the ultimate goal – sometimes you just can’t, but you should always try your hardest.

Oh I think it sounds fun to organize a nice big closet! Only one place I lived in had a generous one and you better believe I had so much fun organizing it, placing all my shoes and bags neatly in a row!
