Shopping in Paris

In the City of Lights during the Season of Lights:

My dear friend Melissa is currently on a Christmas shopping trip in Paris.  She excitedly contacted me today when she saw the Christmas tree at Galeries Lafayette.  The tree is PINK!

And with my recent Pink Christmas post, she knew I’d be interested.  She was right!

Although I’ve been to Paris, I have not been to this store.  After a little digging this is what I found:

  • Galeries Lafayette is located at 40, boulevard Haussmann which is near the Opéra.
  • Although it looks like an amazing mall, it’s actually a 10-story department store.
  • Was founded by cousins Théophile Bader and Alphonse Kahn in 1893.
  • Began as a small fashion store.

This department store is beautiful all year long.  But during the holiday season it’s spectacular.  The first picture below is the one from Melissa.  In addition to the pink tree, notice the stained glass domed ceiling and all the balconies.

I found the next photo–to show a more detailed look at the balconies and stained glass ceiling.

The final pic shows that even the outside is beautiful.

As I was talking with Melissa on the phone, (she was still at the Galeries Lafayette) a group of young school-children were being ushered in for a field trip to see the decorations.  I had to wonder, “What must it be like to grow up in such a beautiful city?”  I can’t even imagine going on this kind of field trip as a child.  We once went on a school trip to a factory that made wooden clogs.  Seriously.  icon sad Shopping in Paris

Hope you enjoyed this little trip to Paris.  Have a great Friday!
