Bed, Bath and Beyond

Comfort and Joy:

When it comes to weather here at this time of year…every day is a surprise.  Trick-or-treaters might be bundled in layers, while Christmas Eve shoppers may be donning shorts.

It seems I live in an area that just really can’t decide what fall/winter weather should look like.

The cold sets in:

This week it’s decided to be cold, wet and windy.  Probably my least favorite combo!  As I trudged through the ick yesterday–I knew it was going to be a good night for a long, hot bath.  Then loads of moisturizer (these days it seems I’m trying to marinate in moisture each night) and off to bed earlier than usual.

I am happy to report–it was heavenly!  In fact, as I type this morning, bundled in a sweater,  I really want to crawl back into my warm bed.

For me, summer is easy.  I find joy in the warmth of the sun touching my skin.  I am energized by sitting on the patio, coffee in hand, watching the sun come up on the horizon.  Hot nights, sitting under the stars while talking and laughing with friends…perfection.

The calm before the storm:

This time of year I have to search for comfort and joy.  I love the holidays and soon will be in full-on holiday mode.  But this lull before the storm is perhaps one of my least favorite times of year.  So I create my own happiness with spicy candles, relaxing baths and a super luxurious bed, complete with feather bed, 800 thread count sheets, comfy blankets and even a quilt.

What about you?

I want to know…how do you feel about this time of year?  Am I alone in disliking the calm before the holidays.  And what do you do to find comfort and joy during the cold months?

The following pictures are what happiness looks like for me during this time of year.

Teas… and setting out a tea kettle with all the trimmings. Fuzzy slippers, the kind of all-absorbing book where you forget what time it is, and flannel sheets. Oh, and nice fragrances. I hate a stale house, esp food smells when the meal is over (yuk!!), so reed diffusers with vanilla or spice fragrances.

This is one of my least favorite times of the year too. The winter is so long where I live, and I am not looking forward to months of snow.

I would have to add my giant fuzzy standard poodle reclining on that lucious bed, a fire roaring in the fireplace and substitutea bottle of chilled Patron Anejo for the bottle of bubbly. Keep warm and well moisturized!

Mmm … I can see why you never want to leave your bedroom … it’s beautiful and luscious! I could definitely imagine spending a day, in bed, with a good book! :)

I like this time of year. For me it’s a time to settle down. That lull seems to give me permission to take it easy, reflect and do some nice things for myself. I adore the calmness of it all because it seems that every other part of the year is so busy. I guess I look at it as a time of renewal.

    Take Care!

❤ Melissa-I like you–you have good taste! LOL!

❤ Small Footprints–I really like the way you put it…that you
give yourself “permission to take it easy” for a while and take
care of yourself. I think I need to work on my mindset about
this time of year. Thank you!

I love this time of year–I love it to be cold & rainy out—my
house is warm and cozy. My favorite thing when it’s really cold
are my fleece sheets–they are so cozy—when it’s cold it’s nice
to slip into a warm bed.
