European Fashion Magazines

A Culture Lesson:

My dear friend M, splits her time between Europe and the US.  She was kind enough to pick up a few goodies on her way back this week… four September European fashion magazines!eiffel 150x150 European Fashion Magazines

They are really a treat.  And just what I needed to cheer myself from the fact that I’m not at Fashion Week.

Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing some of my favorite finds from their pages.  I can tell you right now, it has been a while since I spent much time with a foreign fashion magazine.  I almost forgot how different they were from ours.

American magazines have relied heavily on Hollywood heavy-hitters to sell magazines over the last several years.  Whereas these French and Italian versions appear to primarily have models do their modeling.  I like that!

The other glaring difference so far is how conservative Americans are compared to Europeans.  Lots of nudity and very suggestive poses can be found throughout some of these foreign magazines.  And while I personally don’t find this offensive–I do find it rather interesting.

I think it’s interesting how you can see such a contrast between cultures just from a fashion magazine.  Fashion.  Not just fun, but educational too!  =)

Here are the four I received:

  • Rendez-Vous De La Mode
  • French Vogue
  • Purple Fashion Magazine
  • AMICA
