Part 1: What are the Benefits of any Getaway?

Labor Day is fast approaching.  If you haven’t already gotten away this year, the long weekend will be a great opportunity for a staycation. Over the next several days we will be covering this modified vacation.  We’ll discuss the true benefits of any getaway as well as how to set the scene for a really relaxing staycation.  And ideas for entertainment.

In order to get the vacation benefits from a staycation…we first need to know: What are these benefits?  Why do we all crave vacations?

Three Main Benefits of a Good Getaway:

1. Relaxation and rest.
2. Connecting with loved ones through shared experiences.
3. Disconnecting with everyday life and getting back to the basics.

Remember, good getaways are about more than just “getting away.”

I think most everyone can understand the benefits of relaxing and connecting with friends and family.  But what about the need for disconnecting with everyday life and getting back to the basics?

Are You too Artificially Connected?

While a person may have 500 Facebook Friends and 1,500 Twitter Followers plus a bunch of texting pals…How often does this same person just sit and talk face-to-face with a close friend or family member?  How often do they experience those “best friend moments” where they express deepest hopes and most terrifying fears?  Electronic connections are nice, but can’t replace human interaction.  That’s why disconnecting from everyday life makes up the final component of a good getaway.

So make sure you find a way to include these three components in your upcoming staycation.  And you’ll get the benefits of a great vacation on a budget.  Best of both worlds!
